What are the types of application deadlines?

During the college admissions process, students have a choice of when to send in their applications. There are three main types of deadlines for them to choose from: Regular, Early Action, Early Decision, and Rolling. The main difference is the timing and due date of each. Early Action and Early Decision are early in the year, whereas Regular and Rolling decisions are later in the year. There are finer details, but that is the general idea. The material within the application is the same, the date of submission just changes.

For a high schooler, a resume may represent one of the first thresholds into adulthood. While they are professionally-minded documents, resumes are not nearly as self-serious and rigid as they may appear. A student should view a resume as an opportunity to highlight their achievements and express enthusiasm about what they’d like to do next.

What is a Resume and Why Do You Need One?

A resume is a structured document that summarizes a person’s qualifications. This usually includes a history of employment and involvements as well as skills and abilities.

The purpose of a thorough college application is to give the admissions committee a complete picture of an applicant. Typically, it’s required that an application form, a transcript, test scores, letters of recommendation, and essays be submitted in addition to any supplementary materials. Creating a complete and cohesive story with this diverse body of materials is a key part of the application process.

One of the most stress-inducing components of the college admissions process is the essay section. For both talented writers and those that struggle with the subject, essays often seem like the riskiest part of the application.

Remember the essay is simply meant to give students an opportunity to introduce themselves to the admissions committee. Typically, it is used to showcase elements of a student not otherwise covered in the application. In reading these written sections, admissions committees are able to garner a better idea of who a student is beyond their grades, scores,…

Building a list of schools to apply to may seem like a daunting task. How do you know what universities are a good fit? Is it possible to predict what your child will want over the next four years? What if they don’t even know what they’re going to study yet?

I purchased plane tickets to check out east coast schools with my daughter, a high school junior. And then it hit me: we are just visiting a few schools on this trip...what about the rest of the schools that interest my daughter? Her potential college list spans all corners of the United States, and frankly I don’t want to spend the time and money to see them all. When another parent told me that her teen never set foot on a single campus before applying, I started to question whether visiting colleges is even necessary.

I decided to enlist the advice of…

It’s hard to know if a student is heading in the right direction when it comes to taking steps towards a successful college admissions experience.
