The College Admissions Scandal: How Experienced Parents Are Helping Families Navigate the Broken College Admissions System

Imagine

There has to be a better way.

Parents are in a state of deep concern as the college admissions scandal unfolds, and it’s also provoking fierce debate over how we individually guide our children. We all know that the system is nowhere near perfect. Families with means have always used their financial wherewithal to gain an edge when it comes to getting their kids into college.  Whether it’s through private tutoring, hiring private college counselors, or taking private test prep courses, spending money will absolutely give a student an edge. The admissions process has never been fair, but this current scandal certainly takes it to another level. Bribing coaches and cheating on tests are illegal and fraudulent activities that absolutely should not be tolerated, but it’s also not the same as getting a tutor for your child if he’s struggling in math or signing him up for a test prep class if he struggles with taking standardized tests. Unfortunately many people are using this opportunity to shame parents and families who are trying their best to help their children succeed within this broken process. Until the entire college admissions system changes, what is a parent to do?

There has to be a better way.

Instead of shaming parents who are doing their very best to support their children, why not help all parents find ways to support their children in the best ways possible?  Why not give every child and every parent an edge? Why can’t we arm every parent with valuable knowledge, resources, and parenting tools so they can guide their children towards success? Information about the pre-college journey and the college admissions process  should be available to all, and not just to wealthy parents. Whether a parent needs help supporting a child who needs extra math help, more advanced math or information on how to be admitted to the colleges with best math programs, finding good programs and information shouldn’t have to depend only on relying on advice from one’s personal network or paying an expensive consultant.

How do we do that?

It’s been said that it takes a village to raise a child. It also takes a village to educate a child to his full potential. There are so many experienced parents who have the information you may be looking for, but they might not be in your personal network. There exists an army of knowledgeable parents with older children in college who have been through the process and have struggled and searched for answers to questions you may be asking now. What if you could be matched up with some of these wise parents so that they  could direct you to the right resources for your own child’s success? We are Versed (www.askversed.com), and this is our vision and mission. We have created an advisory network powered by seasoned parents who have helped their children find their passions, develop their strengths, navigate admissions and gain acceptance to top universities. Our platform, with its incredible knowledge base, is affordable and open to all parents. Our reason for being is now more relevant than ever in light of the controversy engulfing the country today.
