Science Research Webinar with Andy Bramante

For families with students interested in STEM, this webinar is not to be missed! Andy Bramante's Greenwich High School Independent Science Research class produces countless winners in top STEM fairs and competitions in the U.S. – but more importantly, it ignites a passion for STEM that students take with them for life.

Tuesday, May 11, 7:00-8:30 p.m.

People always want to know the secrets of the phenomenal sports coach whose team wins championships year after year. On Tuesday, May 11, at 7p.m. we invite you to meet another type of coach:  Andy Bramante, the Independent Honors Science Research teacher at Greenwich High School, who mentors and inspires students through the challenging and exciting process of carrying out original science research projects.  His students have entered their research projects in science competitions on state, national, and international levels, with a record of consistently winning some of the highest prizes. Journalist Heather Won Tesoriero left her job at CBS news to spend a year profiling Bramante’s program in her critically acclaimed book The Class:

“Andy Bramante left his successful career as a corporate scientist to teach public high school—and now helms one of the most remarkable classrooms in America. Bramante’s unconventional class at Connecticut’s prestigious yet diverse Greenwich High School has no curriculum, tests, textbooks, or lectures, and is equal parts elite research lab, student counseling office, and teenage hangout spot. United by a passion to learn, Mr. B.’s band of whiz kids set out every year to conquer the brutally competitive science fair circuit. They have won the top prize at the Google Science Fair, made discoveries that eluded scientists three times their age, and been invited to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.” Penguin Random House

In this webinar, moderated by Valerie Erde of VeridianPrep, whose daughter was an Intel ISEF finalist in Andy Bramante’s science research class, and Min Kim of Versed Parent Advisory, who was a Regeneron STS (formerly Westinghouse) semifinalist herself, Andy Bramante will discuss what it takes to create a successful independent science research project.  He’ll touch on the many exciting opportunities for young researchers to present their innovative work and share some of his current and former students’ winning projects.  He’ll also describe what it takes to motivate talented and curious students so that they perform at the very highest level.

About Andy Bramante

Andy Bramante leads the Greenwich High School’s Independent Science Research class as a teacher, coach, and mentor. While many high schools boast similar science research programs, few can match the success record of Bramante’s students who consistently win some of the highest prizes in science competitions on the county, state, national, and international levels. During Bramante’s tenure, the program has generated two Google Science Fair Finalists, one Google Science Fair winner, 37 Regeneron/Intel STS finalists/semi-finalists. More than 46 Greenwich High School students have competed in the annual International Science and Engineering Fair, or ISEF, winning eight First Place awards, five Best of Category Awards, and four Grand Prize Awards.

A Bronx native, Andy Bramante attended Fordham University on a Full Scholarship and graduated with a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry. After working in industry for 15 years at Hitachi Instruments and PerkinElmer Instrument, among others, Bramante made a career change so that he could inspire and mentor students in STEM.  He came to Greenwich High School in 2005 to teach Chemistry and lead the Honors Independent Science Research program.

Andy’s incredible work with his students and the world of high school science research was recently profiled in the critically acclaimed book The Class by Emmy award winning producer Heather Won Tesoriero.
